  LSWEEKLY LiteStep Related News 16.10.99 - 22.10.99
 ----------------------------------------------------

This week on the mailing list a disturbing thing happened, a
coder was basically yelled at for making a test build of litestep
with a new function added. Ahhh, what? I thought that the reason
litestep was opensource was so things like this WOULD happen. I
realize that some of the other devs may not have wanted it to happen
this way but it's not as if it was committed to the cvs and made into
an official daily build. It was specifically built and archived
somewhere else. It was even clearly stated that it was a test build
of LS for the #include function. murphy right now does his preview
builds and this seems to be fine, so why isn't this? Look, if you
don't like a feature or believe it shouldn't be added or implemented
the way it is, don't use it, but please don't get upset at other
coders for trying to come up with some new ideas and coding them.

          MODULES
 ---------------------------

- BPTypeIn-991019.zip ~ Keith (12:33pm 19.10)

"Have you ever been working on a module for some time when you
somebody announces he's just released it? It just happened to
me with GeekMaster's geekPaster... a module that enables you
to have some text automagically typed when you call a bang.

"But since I'd nearly finished my version, I just though I'd
release it anyway. Moreover, it can do a little more things."

- Recycler 3.2.3 ~ Joachim Calvert (12:39pm 19.10)

"This version seems to have fixed the crash-on-recycle bug
many users experienced (recycling LS, that is). I still don't
	know what caused it though.

"It also features animation support, so you can now have a
short animation played when you drop files on it, or you
recycle the files. This is of course optional. I still have no
good animation for it, but I will hopefully get one this week."

	%%UPDATE%% (9:13am 21.10)

"In response to a bug report, I fixed the !RecyclerVisible
command, so that the module won't crash LS if the command
is run from LSXCommand without arguments."

	%%UPDATE%% (10:51am 22.10)

"Mostly for the benefit of the non-English-speaking part of

- LSDesktopWeather 0.52 ~ Fizzie (12:56pm 19.10)

	- improved behavior when not connected to internet uses
separate thread for updating weather, so that the process
          doesn't affect Litestep's responsiveness
	- implemented a feature allowing several lines of weather
info to be cycled (see DesktopWeatherCycleDelay for more
          info)
	- added conditions variable for use in DesktopWeatherFormat
          (clear, mostly cloudy, etc)
	- added DesktopWeatherUpdateString, so a custom update string
can be used (defaults to "Retrieving weather conditions...")
	- added 3 new bang commands: !ShowLSDW, !HideLSDW, and
          !ToggleLSDW

- jDesk 0.60 ~ Jugg (12:59pm 19.10)

+ Added jDeskDesktopFolder (drag & drop) command.
	- Removed "jDeskSwapMButtons" (too much extra code, just
          change your commands instead).
	* Changed the mouse button configuration. Now both Down and
Up commands are on the same line separated by brackets [].
	* Changed the way the desktop background/ refresh is handled.
          Using WS_EX_TRANSPARENT now.

"Crank has updated his desktop rippling module (ripple.dll).
	If you are not familiar with ripple.dll, it is pure eye candy;
at set coordinates one may create a moving lake-like effect
on their desktop. New features allow the user to hide it on
startup, reverse direction, increase/decrease frequency, and
	a new toggle command."

- Bangpath ~ crank (2:02pm 19.10)

"This is just an idea I had about a less annoying way to
configure paths. Basically we all have a web browser/email
client/irc client/text editor/file manager. If we all called
them by the same names, keeping our own paths.rc file
everything would be cool. This dll is meant more as an idea.
A better implementation would involve modifying how step.rc
	is parsed."

	%%UPDATE%% (9:12am 21.10)

 ----
 Tips
 ----

- You can use e-variables within the step.rc. To do this you simply
assign a variable at the top like: IRC c:\mirc. Then in the body
of your step.rc you can call to the variable like this:
*Hotkey WIN I %IRC%\mirc.exe. This is especially useful for dir's
that you call to often such as program files or windows.
