 ----------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the small size of the letter this week, but aside
from some decent core updates, not much has been happening. With that
said, on to the rant of the week. On the list a debate was going on
about having to register WB. This then lead to having to pay for
shareware programs and the like. This is a pretty silly debate if
you ask me. If you use the product, like the product, if it's well
coded, not bloated, and a reasonable price, shell out the money. On
the other hand, if it's a piece of crap, don't bother. For programs
such as WB, I have a hard time wanting to shell out cash for it. It
isn't really that useful of a program. Yes, it works fine, makes
my desktop look just a bit prettier but other than that it's not
very useful.

Now, I don't want to get into a fight here about how much
time and effort went into making the product. I understand that
aspect of shareware. Sure, they have slaved over it to make it better
and better. Thats why they feel they deserve to get paid for it.
Take what I say here with a gain of salt but, $20 for a program, even
if I think it's not useful to me, is still worth it.

- Fahim's DevJournal Goodies (11:38pm 23.09)

"Behind the scenes... Fahim has a new entry posted at The
Developer's Journal about progress on his new shell. He's
achieved a compilable shell executable and core dll's (hook,
bangs, api and lsapi wrapper), but along the way theme.rc
support had to be sacrificed due to incompatibilities between
the disk-based config system he plans to use, and the
	memory-based system that LS uses."

	  and QuickAlarm()).
	- Fixed a bug in Date() evaluation

- Recycler 3.0.1 ~ Joachim Calvert (12:38am 19.09)

"The new version incorporate many new features and is now
	fully customizable.

"For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a plug in
which gives you full access to your recycle bin, with full
support for drag'n'drop, and also tells you if there are
files in the 'bin or not.

"Thanks to its new Mixed Mode Module (MMM) design, you can
now use it either in the old-fashioned way in a wharf tile,
or load it directly on your desktop, with whatever dimensions
	and bitmaps you like!

"It now has (almost) full support for transparency, and if
you tell it not to stay on top, it integrates seamlessly on
your desktop, adapting to your current background even when
	using the VWMDeskWallPaper# settings.

	"The supported BangCommands(TM) are !RecyclerEmpty,
!RecyclerOpen and !RecyclerToggle, which allows you to toggle
	its hidden state."

	%%UPDATE%% (11:21am 22.09)

"Due to some mess up on my part the last release wouldn't work
on NT, there was also a problem with the state of the Recycler
not updating correctly, esp. on systems with Win98.

"These problems have now been fixed, so if you downloaded
version 3.0.0 and it did not work as expected, please try the
	new release."

 Tips
 ----

- Just because LS is a sported as a shell replacement doesn't mean
that you can't run it as a shell enhancement. Boot into windows
as normal and add litestep.exe to your startup group. Add
ExplorerNoWarn into your step.rc and you can now have the explorer
shell and use litestep as an enhancement program.

- Bind !Recycle to as many things dll's as you can. Hotkey, Popup,
Shortcut, etc. This way, if one of these dll's fails to load, you
will have the ability to fix the problem and still recycle ls
instead of having to reboot or kill ls.

 Mandel v1 ~ Fredrik Johnsson - CAPO (Sept 14, 1998)

This is the only time I have ever seen this mod. I have
scoured sites looking to see if anyone else has it and it
 	seems not. From the readme:

"Dedicateed to Benoit Mandelbrot, who explored the limits of
 	 infinity.

"Mandel is a module that will produce and show a classic
mandelbrot. The mandelbrot is stopped after 72 iterations,
not to big to suck out CPU-power. It's the first module I
have ever produced so its not very reliable, complicated
or useful :) It has absolutely zero user configurability and
it will probably not be followed by a second edition."
